Jail Ministry

First Light small group started a ministry to the Lake County Jail in November 2004.  That ministry, the Purpose Driven Life  group, meets on the program pod Lake County Jail on Saturday mornings.  Each prisoner gets his own The Purpose Driven Life book.  This group has, by the grace of God, changed lives. The stories of those who have been changed and challenged to change are legion.  The Holy Spirit is working at the jail in marvelous ways.

Mission Statement:

To show the love and forgiveness of Jesus to those in jail and to offer them the opportunity to change their lives through the study of the Purpose Driven Life and the principals it teaches.

Objectives:

Inmates

• Lead a weekly study based upon The Purpose Driven Life and the principals for living it teaches.

• Offer prayer for each attendee at the Purpose Driven Life group.

After transfer or discharge 

• Maintain contact with inmates after they leave the Lake County Jail by:
• Sending The Purpose Driven Life books to those transferred to prison.
• Maintain contact through letters of support and cards on special days.
• Inviting inmates to join the First Light small group
• Offer transportation to those who need it to JOY! church services, bible study and job interviews.
• Offer the bible studies by e-mail for those who cannot attend.
• Mentoring.
